Top 10 Beauty Gurus on YouTube

I am not a beauty expert, but as the front desk manager at our MSC-Woodbury campus, I have a passion for this industry and am excited to share my suggestions for Top 10 beauty videos on YouTube.

I have be honest. I used to color my own hair and never did my makeup. Then I started working for MSC and it really drew my attention to how I presented myself. I still don’t wear a lot of makeup, but I’ve made it my goal for this next year to learn how to do my own makeup by watching YouTube videos.

I wanted to see what these vlogs were all about. Could these ridiculously popular vloggers really teach me about beauty in the way that enhanced the education that I’ve gotten by watching and learning from our students? You’d be surprised! Most of these vloggers have little to no previous makeup, hair, or beauty experience, but they’re ruling the internet with these videos! Why? Because they are regular people, just like you and me, and they have a passion for this industry.

I set out by searching “beauty blogs” and proceeded to watch dozens and dozens of videos by countless numbers of people. Did you know there are even videos about who to watch? There are, and I watched those too. Then I realized that it’s really up to each individual person and how they relate to who they are watching. Some were crazy annoying. Some covered way more than just beauty tips. There are specific vlogs for whatever you are looking to do. There’s an amazing amount of videos to go through.  It was almost overwhelming.

After all that research, I was able to narrow down a list of my ten favorite beauty and lifestyle gurus on YouTube. Check them out and then make your own decision on who you connect with and follow:

Makeup in Minutes

As a mother of a young child, I have very little time for makeup application in the morning, so I’ve pared down my routine to just minutes. For those of you who have hectic schedules and need to maximize your time in front of the mirror, here are several simple steps to a faster beauty regimen.

Step 1: Skin preparation

Skin should be prepped before makeup is applied, so I start with a three-in-one cleanser that also tones and exfoliates. This multiuse product not only saves time, it’s easier on your pocketbook. To receive the most benefit, particularly if you use a cleanser with an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) such as glycolic acid or beta hydroxy acid (BHA) like salicylic acid, you can leave it on your skin as a mask for a few minutes while in the shower before washing it off. After cleansing, I gently apply an eye cream and facial moisturizer.

To streamline your makeup process, make sure your application tools and makeup and cleansing products are organized and accessible. I recommend an eye shadow brush and a blush brush, one to two eye shadows or an eye shadow trio, a brown eyeliner, black mascara, color correcting (CC cream), a light blush and a lip gloss.

QuickMakeUpRoutinesStep 2: Foundation and moisturizer

For my base, I use a CC cream, which serves as both a light foundation and moisturizer. For those with oily skin, CC cream might be enough of a moisturizer so you can skip Step 1. The CC cream also provides color correction and sun protection, and it looks natural as it is designed to blend right into the skin and does not need to be an exact match like a foundation.

Step 3: Eyeliner

Next I apply a brown eyeliner to define my eyes. The brown hue accentuates my eyes, making them seem larger. I use it at the corners, then smudge color lightly on my lower lash line to the halfway point. Finally, I apply the eyeliner on the upper lash line about three-quarters of the way across this arc.

Step 4: Eye shadow

Continuing with a brown color theme, I use a brown eye shadow, sweeping the color across the lid next to where I applied the liner. Next, I “pat” eye shadow on the outside corner of my eye before smoothing and blending it evenly across the remaining lid surface. The color should be applied from the lash line to just above the eyelid crease.

To contrast the brown shadow and further enhance my eyes, I apply a cream or light pink eye shadow, blending it with the darker hue and sweeping right under my eyebrow to highlight my brow bone.

Step 5: Blush

My finishing touch is a small amount of blush. I apply it along the contour of the cheek and blend in a circular motion over the apples of the cheeks. A coat or two of mascara, some gloss on the lips, and I’m ready for the day!
