Students to provide hair and makeup looks to accompany clothing designs for U of M senior showcase
Students from the Minnesota School of Cosmetology (MSC) in Woodbury, Minn., will style the hair and makeup for 16 models walking in the University of Minnesota (U of M) College of Design 47th Annual Apparel Design Fashion Show.
The runway show, entitled “Revel,” serves as the Apparel Design class of 2015 senior showcase, during which 13 students will present their collections as a summary of their degree at the U of M College of Design. Minnesota School of Cosmetology students began providing the hair and makeup styles for this show five years ago, when MSC instructor Chris Prieve’s daughter was a senior in the U of M Apparel Design program.
“This is a great opportunity for our students,” says Jill Hocking, campus director for Minnesota School of Cosmetology-Woodbury. “This is a professional event that gives them that real-world experience we look to expose our students to every day.”
Eight MSC students who wished to participate were chosen to style the hair and makeup for the show. Students have also styled hair and makeup for other local fashion shows, including the Minnesota Timberwolves Dancers Fashion Show.
“Events like this allow our students to get a feel for what it’s like to work in the industry and the different opportunities a career in cosmetology offers,” says Hocking.
The University of Minnesota 47th Annual Apparel Design Fashion Show will take place on Sat. Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Rapson Hall in Minneapolis.
