College partners with organization to help girls in need by serving as prom accessory donation site
Minnesota School of Cosmetology is collecting prom item donations in partnership with Operation Glass Slipper, an organization that provides prom dresses and accessories to girls who otherwise may not have the funds to attend.
Both Minnesota School of Cosmetology campuses, located in Woodbury and Plymouth, are collecting dresses, shoes, jewelry, purses and other accessories. All donations will be given to Operation Glass Slipper to provide to students in need at its Princess Event, when students who have been nominated are able to get everything they need for prom. This year’s event is March 14-15 at Southdale Shopping Center in Edina, Minn. An estimated 1,000 girls are expected to attend.
“We’re excited about our partnership with Operation Glass Slipper,” says Jill Hocking, campus director for Minnesota School of Cosmetology-Woodbury. “As professionals in the cosmetology industry, we love making girls feel beautiful, and Operation Glass Slipper shares that mission with us.”
MSC will also donate certificates for complimentary updos or specialty styles to girls who attend the Princess Event.
“We’re always looking for ways to help out our local communities and give our students hands-on experience at the same time,” says Elaine Vandenburgh, campus director for Minnesota School of Cosmetology-Plymouth. “Our students love being part of this project each year.”
Donations can be dropped off year-round at either of the Minnesota School of Cosmetology campuses during hours of operation:
