Since October was National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Minnesota School of Cosmetology students and staff decided to raise money for a local organization called Tubman. This amazing organization helps women, men, youth and families who have experienced relationship violence, elder abuse, addiction, sexual exploitation or other forms of trauma.
We proudly wore purple to let it be known that we won’t stand for domestic violence. By charging money to wear jeans, we were able to donate all proceeds to Tubman Family Crisis and Support Services. “Thanks so much for your ongoing support to our families,” said Joanne Rice, Shelter Manager at Tubman.
We also offered free salon services for the clients of Tubman. MSC-Woodbury graduate Shela Vang said “My experience with the Tubman ladies was great! I enjoyed it not just because we’re giving out free services, but I was able to touch someone’s heart. Being able to make people feel and look good is all I care about! As long as I know they’re happy with my service then I’m happy too.”
MSC-Woodbury student Krystal Shake was happy to give complimentary manicures because she could tell the women were really appreciative. In the past, Krystal volunteered at Tubman taking care of kids which she said was really fun.
