Meet the MSC Instructors

Learn the tricks of the trade from those who know the industry best. At Minnesota School of Cosmetology, our instructors are all experienced beauty professionals with decades of combined beauty industry experience.

All our licensed instructors are required to complete continuing education quarterly, so you can feel confident they know what they are talking about. Not only that, but they are passionate and enthusiastic about sharing that knowledge with you.

Their real-world experience and industry insight, combined with our small class sizes and individualized attention, will provide you with a hands-on learning experience that will leave you well-prepared for a career in cosmetology.

All Plymouth Woodbury

Campus Director – Woodbury & Plymouth

Jill has served as the director of our Woodbury campus since 2005. She believes in the importance of higher education and providing helpful tools and communication skills to assist college students in accomplishing their dreams and goals along their journey. Jill began her passion for the beauty and fashion industry while acquiring an associate’s degree with an emphasis in fashion and costume design. One of the things she enjoys most about the industry is watching how the trends and fashion change.

Jill thoroughly enjoys the experiences she’s had with her team and her students at Minnesota School of Cosmetology. She never forgets her graduates. She believes a happy student is a committed and successful one. She believes in setting high expectations and empowering her students with an understanding, caring and high-energy approach.

Jill also enjoys playing a large role in her community. She serves as a Woodbury Area Chamber Ambassador and also serves on three additional Woodbury community-enhancing committees.

Aleta Cox MSC Faculty

Instructor

Aleta has been an instructor at Minnesota School of Cosmetology since 2014, but she has been a part of the MSC family for much longer. She graduated from MSC in 2005, and then went on to work as a stylist, salon manager and now a salon owner. She understands the value of a good foundation in this industry, and loves being able to help provide that for the next generation of stylists. Aleta says she was inspired to teach by the amazing instructors she had while she was at MSC, and says they are what drew her back to the school.

Aleta has specialized training in Dermalogica skin care products and a number of other lines. She says her favorite part of the industry is the variety and continually keeping her skills fresh. In her spare time, she likes to try new trends.

Amos Thomsen MSC Faculty

School Manger

Amos came to MSC in 2012, where he now serves as the school manager of our Plymouth campus. He began his career as a stylist at a high-end salon in Uptown. Over his career, he has worked in, and managed, salons, as well as taught in local beauty schools. He loves teaching and sharing all he has learned with eager minds. He says MSC is a great place to learn and work because of the caring and knowledgeable faculty and staff.

Amos loves being creative with hair color and cutting, and bringing modern trends to the classroom. He says that blurred line between art and science generates beauty. When he is not working, Amos enjoys films, music, swimming and time at the cabin.

Amy Stolber MSC Faculty

Instructor

Amy joined the MSC staff in 2013. She has experience working in high-end, full service salons and express salons in the Twin Cities. Amy regularly attends hair shows, and has visited with several top salons in London, Paris and Milan seeking out the new and upcoming trends and techniques. Amy first fell in love with MSC as a student. After working in the industry for several years, she knew it was time to come back and share her passion and experience with the next generation of cosmetologists. She loves helping students discover their creative potential.

Haircutting has always been her area of specialty, however she loves to teach up do’s and styling since it unleashes imagination, creativity and self-expression. In her free time, Amy loves to travel, cook, give back to the community, as well as support Cancer Research.

Instructor

Angela joined the MSC family in 2015. She brings with her more than 30 years of cosmetology experience. She has been teaching since 1999, helping other aspiring cosmetologists realize their dreams. She also has experience as a salon manager, as a stylist, working for a hairpiece company, and in salon product sales. She says she really enjoys guiding students and watching them achieve successful careers in this ever-changing and exciting industry.

Instructor

Chelsea graduated from the Salon Professional Academy in Eau Claire, WI back in 2008. She joined the MSC team back in September of 2015. She decided one day that her clientele behind the chair had become very strong and that she needed to push herself to do something new! Taking on the instructor role has boosted her career in many different ways. It has given her the passion for her career all over again by being able to share her knowledge and experiences with her students. Teaching has given her that satisfaction of getting our students excited about this industry and how wonderful it is! Something that she found very impressive about herself was obtaining a becoming a licensed Instructor as such a young age.

Chelsea and her family live in Stillwater, MN. In her spare time when she is not at the salon or school she enjoys spending time with her boyfriend Craig and daughter Quinn.

Chris Prieve MSC Faculty

Instructor

Chris has been an instructor with MSC since 2006. Before that she worked in, managed and even owned her own a salon. Her passion for the art and desire to continue learning, keeps her in the salon a few hours a week. She loves the classroom experience, helping students build their skills and watching their confidence and creativity blossom. She says there is nothing better than seeing that light bulb go on when it all come together for them. Chris is continually motivated by the passion of the students and staff at MSC.

Chris loves all aspects of cosmetology, and says the real thrill comes from helping others look and feel their best. It is no surprise, one of her favorite hobbies is gardening where she can express her creativity and nurture growth. She also volunteers for the Look Good Feel Better program, a free program for cancer patients currently under a doctor’s care.

Instructor

Dayna has been with MSC since July 2015 and has been in the industry for 30 years. Dayna says, “The hair industry is a passion of mine, in addition to that is the teaching of cosmetology and I now get the pleasure of both. I love the ever changing trends and hands on creativity the industry has to offer. I enjoy getting to be a part of each students experiences as they learn and grow to be successful individuals. I love hands on teaching along with the classroom theory. It is such a pleasure to work with the students and clients on the clinic floor and to witness how our students achieve confidence with each service they perform.”

In Dayna’s personal time she enjoys staying active with family and friends. A favorite activity of hers is tandem bike riding with my husband. During the weekends she likes spending time at the cabin, including boating and walks in the woods and the annual paintball weekends. She also loves walking their wonderful Labradoodle, “Riley Sophia,” gardening, reading, and scrapbooking photos. Her and her family enjoy traveling out west to ski and trips up the north shore.

Donna Dungy MSC Faculty

Instructor

Donna has been with Minnesota School of Cosmetology since 2005. She brings with her more than 30 years of experience in a variety of cosmetology settings, and a deep passion for the industry. In addition to teaching, Donna has a partnership in Blessings salon in St. Paul. Donna says she has experienced nearly everything in this industry, but nothing is more gratifying than watching a student turn their skills and passion into a self-supporting career. She also enjoys the continuous learning opportunities in cosmetology. She says education is the key to longevity in this industry. One of the things Donna loves most about MSC, is the diversity of its students and clients.

Donna is well-versed in all areas of cosmetology, but especially likes working on highly texturized hair. She believes students need to be well-rounded in their education, with knowledge of all techniques and hair textures. In her free time, Donna loves participating in outdoor activities and volunteering with “The Dungy Foundation”, founded and run by her family.

Irene Grossklaus MSC Faculty

Instructor

Irene joined the MSC family in 2012, after teaching elsewhere for several years. She thrives on the constantly-changing trends within the industry and loves sharing them with her students. She is continually motivating and encouraging them to explore their own creativity. Irene says there is no greater reward than seeing her students’ successes and accomplishments, and knowing she was a part of their journey. She loves the family-like atmosphere and collaboration among the staff at MSC.

Irene’s favorite areas to teach is hair cutting and color on the salon floor. She also enjoys preparing students for their first interview and job. Outside of work, Irene stays very busy with her three kids, who are all active in sports. She enjoys watching them play hockey, baseball, football, and gymnastics! And with any free time that is left, she loves vacationing up north and fishing.

Joshua Luhmann MSC Faculty

School Manager – Woodbury

Joshua has been with MSC since 2010, and in his current role as School Manager since 2011. He’s used his energy and positive attitude to advance in the beauty industry. His previous experience includes working behind the chair, as well as managing a salon and a school. He loves teaching and finds fulfillment in helping aspiring stylists realize and accomplish their dreams. He considers MSC his second family, and loves the close-knit environment, diversity, advanced classes and real-life experience students get here.

Joshua has a passion for teaching color. He loves helping students progress from the basics to advanced color techniques. He enjoys experimenting with different colors and techniques to help create new and exciting looks for clients. You’ll probably recognize Joshua by the smile he always has on his face.

Leah Hillesheim MSC Faculty

Instructor

Leah joined the MSC staff in 2012. She has multiple years as a stylist behind the chair and has been instructing students since 2002. She is excited to share her knowledge and experience with the next generation of stylists. She says she is energized by sharing and exchanging information in an ever-changing industry, and was drawn to MSC by the passion of its students.

Leah is passionate about skincare, hair-cutting and styling.

Lynn Colburn MSC Faculty

Instructor

Lynn has been at MSC since 2007 when she attended an orientation with her daughter and fell in love with the instructors, staff, students and the atmosphere. She started her cosmetology career in 1986 at Great Clips for Hair. Since that time she has worked in a number of salons as both an employee, and an independent stylist renting a chair. She is always expanding her artistry through hair shows and continuing education classes. Lynn loves sharing her knowledge of color, hair cutting, styling and relating with clients. She enjoys teaching students the art of listening and caring about how clients want to look and feel.

Lynn loves all areas of cosmetology, and is particularly passionate about natural and organic products. When she is not working, Lynn enjoys yoga, gardening, shopping and spending time with her extended family.

Molly Brouhard MSC Faculty

Instructor

Molly joined the MSC team in 2012, bringing with her more than a decade of teaching experience. Molly says she was inspired to teach by one of her own instructors who made a big impacted her life. She strives to create a fun and inviting atmosphere for her all students, and finds great joy in helping them advance their technical skills and realize their own potential. Molly loves the camaraderie she feels at MSC, as well as the constant exchange of information, creativity and ideas.

Molly enjoys all aspects of cosmetology, but especially likes color and updo styling. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time with her husband and two boys. She is very active with her local Special Olympics where her oldest son participates as an athlete and her husband as a coach.

Instructor

Paige has been an instructor with MSC since June 2015. Before that she had been teaching for 18 years and been in the industry for 20 years. Paige says, “Teaching is my passion. I enjoy being with such creative students from the first day to graduation day and following up with them after to hear about their successes. This industry is so hands on and forever changing. I love teaching all hands on subjects either in the class or on the clinic floor interacting with the student and clients. Getting the students ready for the real world.”

In her spare time, Paige enjoys camping, fishing, boating, reading, being around family and friends, and vacations. She loves going to classes to keep up with all the new trends.

Tamera Magee came to MSC in 2015 with over 25 years of passion for this industry and changing many lives she has come in contact with! Her leadership in coaching and mentoring stylist over the years behind the chair, in corporate and private salons, has empowered her to teach cosmetology to our future generation. Tamera has mentored students in NE for the past eight years. With her drive to always further her own education, she has entitled many certifications such as American Crew Certified Instructor, a lead roll doing hair and make-up in a music video, and was chosen to participate in a haircutting “Guinness Book of World Records” event.

Tamera has a strong passion for the roots of hair dressing and for healthy skin. Feels she is making a huge difference when seeing students excel in techniques and encourages them to follow their dreams. Believing in themselves and anything is possible when you put your mind and it.
