Hundreds of people gathered at Minnesota School of Cosmetology’s Woodbury and Plymouth campuses for its fifth annual Rhuin raising money for The Sheridan Story
National Night Out
celebration on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016.

The idea behind the event is to provide the entire community a safe and fun way for families to come together, meet neighbors and engage with local business owners.

Just over 100 people attended Plymouth’s inaugural event and close to 200 enjoyed the fun at Woodbury. There was something for everyone; a bouncy house, face painting, crazy hair dos, games, food and much more. MSC also welcomed special guest, 10-year-old Rhuin Eisley, of south Minneapolis. She has a mission to feed hungry children in the metro. Her story has been shared by KARE 11, FOX 9… even Yahoo Beauty and Inside Edition.

During the National Night Out Event, both campuses collected food donations for The Sheridan Story, a charity chosen by Rhuin. The nonprofit sends backpacks full of food home with school children in need every Friday to ensure they have access to meals over the weekend.

“We thank all of our neighbors and friends for coming out to be a part of our night to unite event. To have Rhuin Eisley be a part of our event to share her story and how she’s helping The Sheridan Story was especially meaningful as we can relate to how she wants to help those in need. We love being a part of the Woodbury community and can’t wait for next year,” Cori Omundson, front desk manager at MSC, said.

“You might think you are doing something small, but you are not. You can make it really big,” Rhuin said.

The event also gave MSC students the chance to put their skills to the test.

MInnesota School of Cosmetology National Night out“It’s almost like a community service, but it’s more of a community engagement event. They get to learn how to interact with people and network and show the community how much they care and so that hopefully when they go out to their future careers they can take that with them,” Omundson said.

Local public safety officials and KS95 also stopped by the event.
